So here’s another project that will result in a big loss for bondholders. What seems to be apparent is that many of these big projects can make money on a day-to-day basis but the huge setup costs are almost impossible to repay.

So what’s the choice, either don’t build the project (not good for jobs) or make sure that the purse strings are kept well and truly under control.

How much does it really cost to build? Subjective, because of course most contractors and outsourcing is now in the private sector. So when companies compete for the tender, they do so against the basis that they have set themselves, which allows for a profit.

Moral of the story? Should major infrastructure projects be back in the public sector?

Might not be as efficient but certainly won’t cost as much.

You know it makes sense.
